Each year the community nominates a local charity to receive the proceeds of the Marsh Monster Mash. We typically support charities who do not receive major funding from the government or other financial body; understanding it is often these grass-roots charities that require the most support to keep their good work going.
This year's charity is Puppy Tales Rescue and Rehoming Inc.
Puppy Tales Rescue and Rehoming Inc was started by Kerrie Gerbert around 8 years ago, and during that time Puppy Tales has seen over 2,500 dogs moving through the service.
Puppy Tales was started with the mandate to be a rescue and rehoming service for unwanted and accidental puppies. However, Kerrie found the dogs really needing her love and attention were the older or medically challenged canines who, without intervention, would have no future in the pound and shelter system.
Using a network of foster homes, Kerrie and her team ensure the dogs going up for adoption are in the best condition to move into their new forever home. Foster homes provide comfort, support, and training to the dogs in their care, getting them used to being around people, and where possible other animals, so they can transition more readily into life with their new family when found. And Puppy Tales Rescue and Rehoming Inc is always on the lookout for more people willing to foster dogs. All food, bedding, collar and lead, and medical expenses are covered while the dog is in foster, all the home needs to provide is a warm, safe environment, and a whole lot of TLC. If you have room in your home and your heart to care for a furry friend for a short period of time, contact Puppy Tales.
If you’re unable foster, you can still help. As a registered charity and non-profit group charity, Puppy Tales Rescue and Rehoming Inc is grateful to accept monetary donations to support their ongoing efforts. People may also opt to place money on their account with The Bacchus Marsh Veterinary Clinic which goes directly to the medical needs of the dogs. And of course supplies are always needed, the following list shows things which are always in high demand and may be donated directly to Puppy Tales:
While appreciating the desire to donate dry dog food, it’s not required at this time. Puppy Tales are lucky enough to receive dry food from many pet stores who supply them with damaged bags or food close to expiry for them to use.
You can also make sure you spread the word, let people know about the service and ensure Puppy Tales is the first call before handing a dog over to a pound or shelter that doesn’t have a “no-kill” policy.
Your continuing support of the Marsh Monster Mash and this year’s charity is a testament to our awesome community of Bacchus Marsh, which has always embraced the underdog (pun intended).
Be sure to come on down to the Terribly Pawfect Twilight Market at this year’s event on Saturday October 26th at The Village Green, Bacchus Marsh. Bring your own furry friend dressed for the occasion and make an evening of it.
Help us help Puppy Tales Rescue and Rehoming Inc because as Kerrie and the team say … every dog deserves a happy tale!
* Please note: Puppy Tales Rescue and Rehoming Inc is unable to accept quilts or doonas as they can't easily be laundered.
